Scooter Helmets

You Should Wear Scooter Helmets
Executive Summary About Scooter Helmets By Susan Olofsson

scooter helmetsYou have to wear a motorcycle helmet when you ride a scooter or moped. No one ever thinks they are going to be in an accident. Wearing a helmet whether you are on a Harley or a Moped is the SMART thing to do. It is covering and protecting the part of your body, your head and brain.

Motor scooters and mopeds are really just small motorcycles. You drive them in traffic and your visibility, compared to a car is low. While most drivers on the road try to pay attention, there are so many distractions that anyone riding a moped or moped scooter on the road needs to be very, very aware of themselves and the surrounding cars.

I would never drive my car without a seat belt, so why would I drive my gas scooter without a helmet. It is substantial protection for my precious head and brain.

Just a few more things about helmets. Make sure the helmet you are buying is DOT approved. The Department of Transportation regularly tests helmets for impact resistance. The hard foam inside of the helmet is the part that will save your head. Usually there is a liner over this for comfort. The foam part of the helmet should be in great shape. No cracks, No dents. It has been compromised. This is the "bumper" of the helmet, if you will. This part of the scooter or moped helmet absorbs the impact, so your head doesn't. Next, make sure your helmet fits properly. Put the helmet on, buckle the chin strap, and try to pull it off by reaching your hand over the top of the helmet and grabbing the back. If the scooter or motorcycle helmet slides, it does not fit you. Try a different size or brand.

A full face helmet will offer you the most protection while riding your moped scooter. It will cut down the wind noise so you will be better able to hear traffic. It will protect youscooter helmetr eyes from road crud, and it will protect you face and neck if you were to have an accident.

If you don't want the full face mask, there are modular helmets that cover the head and part of the face. Some have a half eye shield that flips up and down to protect your eyes.

Make your own decision about whether to wear a helmet while riding your gas scooter, electric scooter, moped scooter or scooter motorcycle, but remember, it is not a decision you can take back.
